Film Stills

The original spark for "Filthy and Wrecked" came from speaking to my mum about her memories of being a young, female, teenage punk in the 80s. She would tell me crazy stories of her and her friends piercing themselves with safety pins on they're way to concerts. This film gave me the opportunity to talk to my mum about her youth and connect with a part of her life I hadn't before.

The Process Behind the Music
As the film is set in the bathroom of a gig, we knew from the start that the music for "Filthy and Wrecked" was an integral part of reflecting the 1980s punk scene and the chaotic nature of the film. After discussing the film with the Norwich punk band "Life Jacket," we knew they were the right pick. They shared our passion of punk music and were equally as dedicated to creating something true to the era. After a few meeting we were ready to record the music for the film. For this we worked with Alex Glenn; a local musician and actor, who recorded, mixed and mastered the punk tracks. (Photographed below)
Throughout the film we hear music from Chris' radio. For these tracks my brother Billy Paynter (Musician and Guitar tutor) created more traditional 1980s pop music. The juxtaposition of Chris' music and the music from the punk gig, would amplify to the audience that Chris is overwhelmed and out of his comfort zone.
The whole process was really great. I got to have a hands on approach compared to other projects and it was very interesting seeing the music production process up close.
